Omron is moving into the high power relay market with a 100A device featuring ≥5mΩ contact resistance.
The G7EB is aimed at distribution power conditioning systems (PCS) as well as test equipment such as semiconductor testers.
The device can switch up to 100A at 800Vac. Its 5 milli-ohm contact resistance is claimed to greatly reduce heat generation within the component.
This is said to both improve efficiency and minimize energy wastage. The G7EB experiences a temperature rise to about +40˚C with a 100A carry current.
PCS designs commonly feature three or more of this type of relay. The Omron device measures 40.5×50.5x37mm. Where a designer can leverage this reduced heat generation to drop otherwise necessary heat sinks, there are further space savings available.
Omron is offering the G7EB with both industry standard and Omron proprietary pin layouts.
Andries de Bruin, senior European product marketing manager, Omron says “The market for the distribution type of PCS is growing rapidly driven by the trend towards micro-generation from renewable sources. The challenge in these high current designs is controlling heat generation.”
