LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Registration for the 2022 Subaru CASA Cycling Challenge is open now. Registration is limited to the first 50 solo riders and 50 teams for the 24-hour challenge.

Starting 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 through 10 a.m. Sunday Aug. 7, participants will cycle on the Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. 2-mile test track in Lafayette. Electronic laps will be counted and timing services will be provided.

"The 2-mile test track provides a safe environment, especially for night-time riding, with no motorized traffic or other hazards associated with rides on public roads," a release said. "The track is part of an area designated by the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat, which will provide a unique environment for the epic bike ride."

The cycling challenge benefits the CASAs for Kids Fund. This fund supports the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program which works to enrich the lives of abused and neglected children in Tippecanoe County, according to a release.

"Personal fundraising pages will be available for participants. Riders are encouraged to get sponsors to raise more money for the fund," the release said. "The top three individual and top three team fundraisers will be named at the awards ceremony. The winners will be recognized on a traveling trophy."

The riders who raise $1,000 or more for CASA will receive a "grand champion" bike jersey. Virtual riders are also welcome in the challenge and can ride when and where they want.

The three men and women who accumulate the most miles in 24 hours will be recognized during a brief awards ceremony after the ride's conclusion. For team racers - ranging from teams of two to 12 - the race is a relay, with one member of the team on the track at a time.

In 2021, CASAs and staff advocated for 407 children, made 27,727 contacts with youth and those involved in their cases and the CASAs for Kids Fund provided nearly $87,000 to the program and the children it serves.
