Tesla FSD Beta 10.13 to be released next week

2022-08-13 02:42:59 By : Ms. Ellen Wang

More than a month after the release of Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta 10.12.2, Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the next iteration is going out to internal testers today.

Musk says that FSD Beta 10.13 will be released next week to external testers. This is assuming that internal testing goes well and no serious issuses are discovered.

10.13 goes to internal beta tomorrow, external next week. Should handle Chuck’s complex left turn. Beta v11 hopefully end of next month, which just amounts to incorporating highway. Importance of “v11” has been reduced by all the 10.x releases. We’re already mostly at v11.

Musk noted that this upcoming version should be able to handle “Chuck’s complex left turn,” a reference to FSD Beta tester @chazman’s unprotected left turn that the FSD beta software has had difficulty with in the past.

In addition to unprotected left turns, 10.13 is going 'deep on roundabouts,' and should be noticeably better in this next update according to Musk.

Another significant feature we could see in the 10.13 release is the ability for the vehicle to navigate on roads without map data. Musk has stated the vehicle should be able to navigate to a pinned location without using GPS. This includes a hotel entrance or a complex surface parking lot.

10.13 is also expected to have smoother intersection control, hopefully reducing the vehicle's hesitation and steering jerkiness that can happen on busy intersections.

In Musk's recent tweet, he also gave an optimistic timeline for the arrival ofFSD Beta v11, saying that it should arrive by the end of August.

Musk added that the main purpose of the v11 update is to move to a “single tech stack” in which city street and highway Autopilot would work with the same technologies.

The update from Musk came on the same day Tesla's Senior Director of Artificial Intelligence, Andrej Karpathy announced he was leaving the company.

With Karpathy’s departure, many Tesla supporters expressed their concerns that the FSD Beta program may be hindered. Musk, however, reassured users that Tesla’s FSD Beta progress will not be impacted.

The Model Y is one of the safest production vehicles because Tesla is constantly taking steps to further its outstanding safety ratings.

The latest safety improvement comes from Tesla China where Gigafactory Shanghai has started rolling out Model Ys with an additional airbag.

The new airbag optimizes the all-around safety of the Model Y and can help prevent front passengers from colliding with each other. With the new update in place, Giga Shanghai-produced Model Y's now come standard with an extra far-side airbag.

Tesla officially announced the addition of the new airbag on China-made Model Ys on Weibo. The translation reads:

“Design with safety first! Tesla China’s intelligently-made Model Y has been equipped with “remote airbags” as standard equipment to protect your travel safety in an all-around way. #Tesla uses intelligent safety to protect every consumer, and the safety gene is always the same #ThisisTesla

The additional side airbag is mounted on the inside of the driver’s seat. When deployed, the airbag can significantly reduce contact injuries between front occupants during a side crash. According to the Euro NCAP, about 25% of crash injuries in traffic accidents result from side crashes.

This update could make a substantial difference during side impact crashes, whereby occupants usually get thrown into each other.

The addition of the new airbag in Made in China (MiC) Model Ys is likely one of many recent upgrades to the Model Y production line in Gigafactory Shanghai. Based on this, we could soon see an extra far-side airbag added to the made in China Model 3, whose production lines in Giga Shanghai were also recently upgraded.

We could also see this upgrade come to other Gigafactories globally in the near future. As we've seen with other Tesla features, Tesla will often add a feature in one factory and will then update other factories when possible.

Tesla's first electric semi-truck will have a range of 500 miles and begin shipping this year, according to a tweet from Elon Musk, founder and CEO. Musk previously said that the model would be on roads in 2023, as well as Tesla's pickup truck, dubbed the Cybertruck. The projected arrival date for the Cybertruck has not changed.

The Tesla Semi Truck, which was unveiled in November 2017, is designed for long-haul trucking. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 20 seconds when hauling a full load, which is faster than most diesel trucks.

The Tesla Semi Truck's range of 500 miles on a single charge constitutes more than double the range of the current longest-range electric truck on the market, the Daimler eCascadia, which has a range of 230 miles.

The Tesla Semi Truck is also significantly cheaper to operate than a diesel truck, Tesla has said. The company estimates that it will cost $1.26 per mile to operate the Tesla Semi, compared to $1.51 per mile for a diesel truck.

Since the company started taking orders for the truck in 2017 some of the most sizable orders have come from the likes of UPS, Walmart, and PepsiCo. The original deposit required with an order was $5,000, which was increased to $20,000 after the event in November 2017.

The company has not said how many trucks it plans to produce but based on past statements from Tesla we can expect the price of regular production versions for the 300-mile (480 km) and 500-mile (800 km) range versions to be $150,000 and $180,000 USD respectively.

Tesla's Semi Truck is part of the company's push to electrify the transportation sector, which is responsible for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions. Tesla also makes electric cars and SUVs, and it plans to start producing its electric truck next year. Tesla's ultimate goal is to transition the world to sustainable energy.
